Tomorrow is Common Assessment #7! A study guide was given on Wednesday and we went over what we could in class today. Below I've attached a completed copy of the study guide so students can check what we didn't go over in class. Study hard and come prepared!

Having trouble with vocab?! Look no further!
There is a great, new way to study vocabulary words!! I have put all our vocab words since returning from Christmas break on my Quizlet account. If you don't already have it, Quizlet is a great study tool that allows you to play flashcard type games with vocabulary. Simply download the app from your phone's app store. (If you don't have a smartphone, don't worry! Quizlet is also a website!) Once you've made an account, you can search my username (mssocha) in users and find all my vocabulary sets! I'm in the process of making a comprehensive list with every word we've learned this year. Students are still free to create their own physical flashcards or list of the words if they choose, but I love Quizlet and am glad to have a fun, easy way for students to study! See me with any questions!

A worksheet with practice questions over the 8 types of figurative language we've studied this week was handed out on Friday. It will be checked for completion and correction on Monday! Look below for an image of the pages if you have misplaced your copy. Print the images below or label a sheet of notebook paper if needed.

In preparation for TN Ready part 1, we will be working on essay writing for the next week and a half. My classes will be taking part 1 on Wednesday and Thursday (March 9th & 10th). Today, students were sent home with the prompt and accompanying text. By Wednesday, students must have 1.) a Do/What chart (a T-chart with "do" on one side and "what" on the other. Do = action verbs, What = objects. Ex: Do = write/What = essay) completed as well as 2.) the text annotated. Below are images of the text/prompt as well as the annotation marks we have discussed/used in class.
The prompt reads as follows:
You have now read "The Violent Side of Video Games." In this text, the author presents several ideas about the effects of playing video games.
Write an essay that determines the author's point of view and analyzes that point of view, including how the author acknowledges and responds to conflicting evidence or viewpoints. Be sure to cite evidence from the text to support your analysis. Follow the conventions of standard written English.
